As with many sports, whole families and generations of one family are often involved - as competitors, coaches, adminstrators and officials. Coaches and their ChildrenChildren who became champions often had parents as thier coaches, and later also became coaches. The Gray family - coach Frank Gray was the Springbok team coach in 1979, when two of his sons - Andrew and Nickie - were also in the team. They were following their elder brothers Simon and David - both Springboks as well. In Johannesburg, Janet Price coaches with her children Dean, Gregg and Lee-Anne, since Dean started coaching in the late 1970's, and Moira Lamont with husband Bill coached daughters Anne and little Mo. In Durban Graham Hill has followed mother Doreen. Brian Elliot of the Aquabear club in Port Elizabeth followed his father Peter, and from East London Jonty Skinner, an USA Olympic coach, followed his father Doug Skinner, as well as the Vaughn family of divers -mother Maureen, Springbok divers Debbie, Trevor and Craig, who the last SA diver to compete at the Olympics in 1992 at the Barcelona Games. Many Families - like the Grays - boast mutiple national champions, in all the sports. Some of the names include: Swimming families include Brukman, Dedekind, Butcher, Horn, Fialkov, Loubscher, Mc Carney. In Rhodesia the Parrington family - Frank and Lillian, with sons David and Marty - is still in the swim, with Dave as long-time diving coach in the USA. Other families in Rhodesia included the Hills - Debbie also a diver in the USA, whose mother Joan won 5 SA titles and 112 Rhodesian chamionships as a breastroke swimmer in the 1950's. Another was the Flint family, where Fredy Flint was Rhodesian 100 freestyle champion between 1922 and 1930. His son Mick was also a sprinter, competing after the war from 1948 to 1952. He was part of the team that won the 3x100 medley relay at SA Championships in 1952, setting a new SA record. There is also the Ward family of mother Jean, who was a diving champion, winning 5 SA championships and later became a synchro coach, and her daughter Su, who was also a synchro national champion. Richard, Des and Cedrick "Peter" Foster - champion swimmers and polo players.
