These SA Championships were followed immediately by the 1960 Olympic Games (Rome) selection trials:

-          Murray “Tich” McLachlan (back row, third from left) was selected to represent South Africa at the Rome Olympics and swam in the finals of both the Men’s 400m Freestyle (6th) and the Men’s 1,500m Freestyle (6th)

-          Frank Butler (middle row, fourth from left) was selected as Captain of the SA Water Polo team for Rome Olympics
